Identifying risk factors and warning signs are essential to suicide prevention, but so is learning about protective factors.

 

Protective factors are characteristics that help protect people from suicide. They can be environmental or personal.

 

To date, protective factors have not been studied as extensively or rigorously as risk factors. Identifying and understanding protective factors are, however, equally as important.
